Daphne Carlyle

Daphne received her first camera, a “Kodak Brownie Starflex”, in her early teens. Her film of choice was chrome and numerous boxes of slides still exist. It was just fun.

An interest in athletics led her to the University of Alberta for a degree in Physical Education. After a few years of teaching and raising a family Daphne’s career direction took a turn and she enrolled in the Photographic Technology program at NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) in Edmonton, Alberta. Joining the Professional Photographers of Canada (PPOC) while working and mentoring with other photographers led eventually to opening a successful portrait studio which she operated in Alberta for over 20 years. In the meantime, she continued to learn and study with internationally known photographic artists and traditional artists.

Along with her husband, Art, also a professional photographer, she continues to hone her skills to keep up with the ever-changing demands of photographic technology. Retirement has brought them to beautiful Vancouver Island in BC to create fine art and record scenic images that capture the essence of their surroundings.

Daphne is a Master of Photographic Arts (10 Bars) (PPOC) and has won many awards through her professional association including the “Yousuf Karsh Lifetime achievement Award”.
