A Cochrane professional photographer marked a career milestone over the weekend, winning a gold medal at the World Photographic cup for her picture of an owl staring at her in the night. We chat with Jacquie Matechuk on Global News Morning Calgary about capturing the stunning photo and being recognized for it.

Tonight Team Canada stood loud and proud. We cheered, cried and celebrated every moment together. Each of us so grateful for this amazing opportunity to represent Canada on the world stage.
Given the spectacular caliber of images involved and the incredible talent represented on the World’s stage, it is absolutely a hugely humbling honour to receive a Gold Medal.
It has been an exciting year, and I’m really proud to take home a Silver Medal in the new Sports Category for Team Canada at the World Photographic Cup.
Being included among exceptionally skilled Canadian artists and receiving a bronze medal for one of my wedding images is a source of great pride.
Its a victory just to be a part of Team Canada, then to place 7th in the World is beyond my wildest dreams.
Its once again an honor to be recognized at the World Photographic Cup.
As a photographer I’m just trying to tell genuine stories through my lens on one of the most memorable day of their lives.
