Because the World Photographic Cup is the Olympics of photography
It’s the only international photographic competition where a photographer can represent their country. This alone should make anyone proud of participating. There are many important international competitions like World Press, Sony Awards, National Geographic etc, but in these competitions, you enter for yourself, for the recognition, the prizes, the fame and the glory. But at WPC, you do it for your country.
Plus you get to belong to a community of photographers who celebrate and encourage each other, working together for success. Once you are a Team Canada Alum you are forever a part of our team!
Every country entering the WPC strives to put together the best of the best team entry. This is why Canada needs your talent and your creativity to succeed. Help us make Canadian photography talent known on the world scene. Submit your images for consideration.
There are two components to the World Photographic Cup.

Laura Ranallo
2022 Finalist
“I didn’t know what I was in for, when I entered. Suddenly, I found myself being mentored by experts in the field who inspired me to go that extra mile. If you want a chance to work with curators with a wealth of knowledge and experience, this is for you. Picture yourself, standing in solidarity with Team Canada, and with the world, as countries unite in an celebration of our passion for photography. That gold medal looks good on you!”
Dave Hutchison
2021 Finalist
“I didn’t make the Canadian team, but still beneficial at the same time. I got a ton of marketing exposure just out of making it to the final round alone.
For example, getting my work into a fine art gallery (my first fine art gallery in 10+ years) and my image ‘Drop in Time’ was the curator’s favourite. Showing her the PPOC National Excellence award and telling her about the World Cup finals sure helped a lot.”
Ammara Sadiq
2021 World Top 10
“This is by far the highlight of my photographic career. Representing my country – there is no bigger source of pride and gratitude than that. I am beyond honored and extremely humbled to have been chosen. Go Team Canada!!”
Joel Robison
2022 Team Canada
“It’s truly an honour to represent Canada in the creative realm, to be a member of a team that validates artists and promotes the talent within our country is truly a prize in itself.”
Paul Wright
2018 Bronze Medalist
“Winning a Bronze Medal at the World Photographic Cup has embedded significant credibility and economic rewards to my photographic career”.
Victoria West
2019 Bronze Medalist
“Having the opportunity to represent Canada, and winning a bronze medal at the World Photographic Cup, was an amazing experience that I’ll never forget. Beyond that, the press and recognition I’ve received have boosted my business and reaffirmed for my clients that choosing to work with me is worth the investment. Entering WPC was one of the best decisions I’ve made”
WPC Team Canada Curation
In the first component, all Canadian images submitted for consideration will be curated by our panel of specialists. Our panel will anonymously review each image entered in a category, and based on WPC criteria decide which ones move on to the next round of curation. If your image makes it to the second round you will receive comments from the curators, this is an opportunity to hear from specialists in that photographic area and get feedback on your image. In the end three images in each category having the best impact, vision, composition, and technical ability will comprise Team Canada’s entry into the World Photographic Cup. Those images will be awarded a certificate stating that they are members of WPC Team Canada.
WPC International Judging and Awards
Canada’s Top images become Team Canada’s entry into the World Photographic Cup. Each year 35-40 countries enter the WPC competition, all vying to outdo each other and declare photographic excellence by winning the World Photographic Cup.
WPC international judging takes place online by a panel of judges consisting of one judge from each country. Using specialized software, each image will be assigned a score in two areas: Impact/Visual Language and Technical Excellence/Composition. Once scoring is complete WPC calculates the Top 10 images in each category, plus the Best of Nation (top scoring image from each nation). In the end, three of those Top 10 images will reach the podium as medalists and (using a ranked scoring system of all Top 10 images) WPC will determine which country wins the CUP!
The Top 10 International images in each of the ten categories will receive a WPC certificate and be showcased globally in various media forms. Medalists will also receive certificates as well as a physical bronze, silver, or gold medal.
Canada’s Top 10 finalists are offered a travel grant to offset travel costs if they decide to attend the WPC awards ceremony in person.
