Bio
Robert has received numerous awards and accolades for his color and black and white photography. Primarily self-taught, his strong sense of design and story-telling portraiture has garnered him international recognition in his field.
Since 1990, Robert learned the important role that portraiture plays in helping children develop a positive self-image, and for that reason, his Vancouver-based portrait business, COATES PORTRAIT DESIGN, focuses on child and family portraiture. His early years in landscape photography continue to strongly influence the on-location environmental portraiture he is known for today.
Inspired by his travels throughout North America, parts of Europe and the Caribbean, Robert’s artistic spirit is always guided by his desire to capture the beauty of our natural and man-made world.
To have my image be recognized in this manner and to be in the company of all the other photographic artists whose work is represented on this international stage is humbling, to say the least.
2020 – Nature (Landscape and Wildlife)
This image of two Icelandic horses was captured on a trip to Iceland where this unique breed of horses was a focus of my travels there. To return to Canada with an image that has become so acknowledged and applauded by my professional peers is a testament that my goal was realized.
